M. Shahul Hameed, Although he was a philanthropist who practiced his social work. Extremely respectful of all religions and cultures. A man of kindness and affection.

After marriage Mr & Mrs Shahul left for Germany about forty five years ago.

But Mr. Shahul, who loved his homeland dearly, made it a habit to come to Sri Lanka every year. He began to help those in need as much as he could.

However, in 1984, Mr. and Mrs. Shahul expanded their social work activities and launched various projects in their hometown of Ulm, Germany, with the patronage of various charitable philanthropists, with material and financial support. It also spread to some European and African countries.

Measures have been taken to provide common facilities to Early Childhood Development Centres, Children, Women and Elderly Homes, Drug Prevention Centres, Religious centres and various public service organisations, especially those belonging to the clergy
in Sri Lanka.

Many activities can be pointed out, such as building houses for low-income families who lost their homes in the tsunami disaster, rebuilding broken houses, providing fishing boats and equipment.

Mr. Shahul has received numerous awards and accolades from the Government of Germany in which he resides, the Ulm Municipal Council and various public service organisations in recognition of his social service work. His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo has also given a written recognition about him.

May Mr. Shahul, who is currently in Sri Lanka who came back after three years, have the courage, strength, health and longevity to continue to perform such humanitarian services ..!

I will use an idea often said by Mr. Shahul to end this article.

“ Although some people live abroad, still they should love and respect their motherland.

Especially if he or she resides in a developed country with facilities, he or she should offer to use as much as he or she can or the financial and material support of the donors living there and use it transparently for the needy people living in his or her homeland. It should be considered as a duty and should be fulfilled during one’s lifetime. “
