A 120-year-old bridge across the Kelani River close to Yatiyanthota at Garagoda is in a dilapidated state causing severe inconvenience to residents who use the bridge.

The bridge is now limited to light vehicles while buses, lorries and other larger vehicles have been banned.

Barrels have been placed blocking part of the bridge and an iron bar fixed on top prevents the movement of bigger vehicles on this bridge.

Due to non-availability of public transport across the bridge and the ban of lorries, the public have been forced to hire smaller vehicles for transport.

Over the years, the iron railings and other sections of the bridge have been deteriorating, and appeals have been made to authorities, but without success.

Those using the bridge have appealed to the government to intervene.
