Sri Lankan graduate receives First Class Master’s Degree in seven subjects
View(s):A Sri Lankan student has qualified to obtain a Master’s Degree with First Class Honours in seven subjects including Engineering from Liverpool University in England.
Sasanka Nugawela, a resident of Wataddara Weralugolla in Veyangoda, obtained a First Class Master’s Degree in Electronics and Computer Science, English, Music, Psychology, Agriculture and Arts.
He received his primary education from Hiripitiya Primary School in Veyangoda. He excelled in academics from a young age and scored 172 marks in the Grade 5 Scholarship exam and entered Gampaha Bandaranaike Maha Vidyalaya —where he had obtained 10 A grades at the GCE O/L exams.
Thereafter, he entered Moratuwa University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering in 2015.
He joined the University of Liverpool for the 2021 academic year and was able to obtain a First Class Master’s Degree through his hard work.
“There were at least 181 students who followed the degree programme from all around the world. I was the only student from Sri Lanka among them, and I was able to get first place,” Sasanka said.
“The graduation ceremony was held recently under the patronage of Peter Clegg, Professor of Medicine at the University of Liverpool, and I was the only one who got the opportunity to address the guests at the end of the graduation ceremony because I received my First Class Master’s Degree. I am happy about that.”
“I have received many job offers from several institutions in England but I intend to return to Sri Lanka and contribute to the development of the country,” he added.
