Sebs prevail over Cambrians by 16 runs
St. Sebastian’s prevailed with a close 16-run win over traditional rivals Prince of Wales in their annual 37th Battle of the Golds limited over encounter played at the SSC ground yesterday.
A knock of 103 runs in 135 balls by Cambrian skipper Tharindu Amarasinghe, who also shared an opening wicket stand of 52 runs with Rivith Jayasuriya, went in vain as the late order failed to impress in their run chase of 228 runs.
Earlier in the day St. Sebastian’s elected to bat first and was helped by a second wicket stand of 61 runs between Bihanga Mendis and Yashan Avishka, followed by a half ton from Sandeesh Fernando to make a modest score of 227 runs.
