Language knowledge, skills need an upgrade: Minister Nanayakkara
View(s):Sri Lanka will gain the opportunity for economic development by developing the required language knowledge and skills, aiming for foreign employment, Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said recently.
“Foreign employers look for the necessary language knowledge and skills,” minister Nanayakkara added, highlighting the need of education and training as demanded by the world.
The Minister also said there was a current job excess for the care economy in Japan, and Sri Lanka lacks people who know the Japanese language and have passed the SSW exam.
The Minister also said Sri Lanka lacks the necessary English standards to pass exams such as the IELTS exams and other relevant language exams and obtain caregiving jobs in countries such as Canada, the UK and European countries.
More than a 100 students who have passed the Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) exam have been selected by a group who arrived from South Korea last week, for welding jobs in Korea, and they are ready to immigrate to South Korea, the Minister said.
Explaining that his Ministry is not in charge of educational activities, he said it was trying to carry out the necessary educational activities with the relevant institutions so students could secure overseas jobs.
