The ashes of Pandit Amaradeva and his wife were interred at the site.

Construction work on the Amaradeva Aesthetic and Research Centre would conclude within eight months, the Central Construction Bureau estimated.

The Bureau pointed out that as the economic situation is somewhat stable, the building construction could be concluded, as 60 percent of the building is already completed.

The Amaradeva Foundation had placed the ashes of Pandit Amaradeva and his wife Wimala Amaradeva at the site. Construction on the premises was awarded to a contractor by the Media Ministry in  2017.

However, the contractor failed to finish the project by the deadline as there were several technical issues, and the contract was terminated.

The project was transferred to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Navy was called in to complete the construction in 2021.
