A select gathering was present at the Lionel Wendt to raise a glass to Wendt on Wendt, the exhibition which kick started Tuesday giving exclusive insight into the maverick photographer, musician and master of Alborado, the ashram-like house in Guildford Crescent which is today the theatre.
Anu Weerasuriya, curator, took the visitors through the sepia portraits of nubile nudes and scenery; Buddhist viharas and landscapes; the chatty witty sparkling letters written by the short-lived genius to close friend Gladys Forbes and wicked holiday postcards- culminating with lots of spirits and hors d’oeuvres amidst glittering fellowship.
The exhibition, Wendt on Wendt is on until Nov 13 at the Harold Pieris gallery of the Lionel Wendt, from 10 a.m. till 7p.m. (closed on poya – November 7)
