Elections Commissioner says he wants to quit 2010-01-27 17:34:55
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said a short while ago that he does not feel it is appropriate for him to continue to serve in the post after the conclusion of Tuesday’s presidential polls.
Speaking soon after announcing the final results of the elections, Mr.Dissanayak said he is no longer able to bear the pressures that have been put on him by various parties while serving as the Commissioner of Elections.
“I request that I be freed from this responsibility, as soon as possible,” Mr.Dissanayaka said.
He added that he was disappointed in the manner in which the state media had acted during the election campaign and also the manner in which certain heads of state institutions disregarded his directives.
