Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka yesterday (June 14) dismissed speculation that he was to join the Government adding that he will make every effort to topple this corrupt administration with a joint opposition.
He told a packed press briefing in Colombo yesterday that he will pursue his political ambitions more vigorously and that he expects obstacles in the future as well.
He also called for the immediate abolishment of the Executive Presidency saying it had led to a dictatorship and urged the restoration of faith in the country’s law and order mechanism.
He added that the independence of the judiciary must be restored and a policy be brought against corruption and nepotism.
The press meeting was the first since he was released from jail after serving a two and a half year sentence.
