
India’s Kashyap Padapalli beat Sri Lankan Niluka Karunaratne by 2 sets to 1 in the men’s badminton singles round of 16 match at the XXX Olympics worked off at the Wembley Arena in England a short while ago today (1).
World 11th seed Parupalli won the first set by 21-14 in a battle that lasted 20 minutes but Karunaratne extended the match by winning the second set.
He claimed the second set by 21-15 after forcing his opponent to commit errors and took the game to a third set.
However Padapalli made a strong comeback as he executed a much better game plan to secure the game 2-1 after clinching the third set by 21-9.
Padapalli will advance to the round of 8.
Karunaratne, the ten-time Sri Lankan national champion achieved the best by a badminton player at the Olympics by qualifying to the round of 16.
