Sri Lanka's stocks ended a losing streak and closed up0 .21 percent Thursday with large cap stocks trading on higher prices analysts said.
The All Share Price Index gained 10.75 points to close at 5,038.15 up 0 .21 percent while the Milanka Index of more liquid stocks fell 1.17 points (0.02 percent) to close at 4,692.82 and the S&P index of large cap stocks rose 15.80 points (0.56 percent) to close at 2,847.50.
The turnover for the day was Rs.634.8 million.
The market unwrapped the 4th day of the week by continuing the yesterday’s momentum. Index values were gradually increased with in the first half and began to fall down gradually in latter part of the day, a stock broker said.
250 counters were traded during the day. John Keells Holdings PLC (Rs. 218.8million), The Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC (Rs. 63.2 million) and Sampath Bank PLC (Rs. 45.4 million) were the major contributors to the daily turnover. The best performing sectors for the day were Diversified Holdings (Rs. 256.5million) and Bank Finance Insurance (Rs. 168.6 million).
The total traded volume for the day was 34 million. This was a 26% reduction against the previous day and the highest traded stock for the day was Renuka Agri Foods PLC with 6.9 million shares changing hands. The market recorded a net foreign inflow of Rs. 134.5 million.(Bandula)
