Australia beat West Indies by 17 runs on Duckworth/Lewis method in a rain-hit Group B match of the ICC T20 WC 2012 which was called off a short while ago at the R. Premadasa ICS in Colombo today (22).
Chasing 192 runs for victory, Australia was 100-1 in 9.1 overs when rain halted play and according to the Duckworth/Lewis method their target at that stage read as 84 runs.
For Australia David Warner made 28 off 14 balls with three fours and two sixes, Shane Watson hit 41 not out off 24 balls with two fours and three sixes and Michael Hussey stroked an unbeaten 28 in 19 balls with three fours and a six.
Earlier Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels cracked half centuries as West Indies posted 191-8 after electing to bat first.
Gayle cracked 54 in 33 balls with five forus and four sixes while Samuels hit 50 in 32 balls with three fours and four sixes to help West Indies reach a challenging total.
Mitchell Starc picked three wickets while man-of-the-match Shane Watson took two.
