STOCKS-Colombo shares closed higher ahead of Avurudu

Colombo shares closed higher on Tuesday with the turnover boosted by large trades in Carsons group, analysts said.
 The All Share Price Index closed at 7,574.86, up 1.62% (120.64 points) while the more liquid Milanka index was up  0.60% (42.38 points) to close at 7,064.25. There was also a crossing of 1.4 million shares of Carson Cumberbatch at Rs. 662 a share, adding some Rs. 943 million to Rs. 4.5 billion turnover.(DEC)
 

STOCKS - Colombo shares high on Avurudu (National New year ) upbeat

Positive mood prevailed in the Colombo bourse at the start of a two day trading week on Monday on account of the Avurudu (National New year ) holidays with analysts saying that mid caps ruled the roost.


All Share climbed by 40.4 points (+0.54%) to close at 7,454.22 while liquid Milanka witnessed a marginal gain of 0.65 points (+0.01%) to close at 7,021.87.

 

Analysts said that daily market turnover was low at Rs.1.5 billion.

 

Commercial Bank  (CB) emerged as the top contributor to the turnover (Rs.277.4million) followed by Browns & Company Plc (Rs.150.8million) and Lion Brewery Ceylon Plc (Rs.104.2million). CB recorded an off-the-floor deal of 1mn shares at a price of Rs.275.

 

Meanwhile high levels of activity were seen in stocks such as PC House Plc, Colombo Fort Land & Building Plc and Union Bank Plc. (DEC)


 

STOCKS - Colombo bourse sees moderate trade

Activity levels in the Colombo market remained moderate on Friday with the bourse gaining over 50 points, analysts said. 

Buying interest was not focused specific sectors and was in selected individual counters. Lanka Orix Leasing Company, which said it has received  Central Bank approval to become a holding company for the group, was actively traded with 760,100 shares changing hands.
Banking sector brought in the highest turnover for the day led by LOLC and Central Finance.
ASPI gained 35 points to 7413.87 and the MPI gained 11 points to 7021.22.
Turnover was at Rs.1.5 billion.    (DEC)

Sri Lankan stockmarkets closed on April 13-15

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has declared Friday, April 15 as a holiday in the wake of a government declaration that April 15 will be a public and bank holiday owing to the Sinhala and Hindu New Year festivities, it was announced on Thursday.

The private sector however is yet to follow the government move though - following past practice - companies are also expected to declare a holiday on this day. Trading thus at the CSE next week will be only on Monday and Tuesday. -ENDS-

STOCKS - Colombo shares gain on banking and finance sector

Colombo shares on Thursday when retailers showed interest on interest in the banking and finance sector,  analysts said.

Lanken Developments, Tokyo Cement non-voting shares,  Central Finance, Union Bank , etc saw interest. The All Share Price Index closed at 7,378.73, up 0.26 percent (18.83 points) while the more liquid Milanka index rose 0.18 percent (12.90 points) to close at 7,009.33 on a Rs .2.1 1.65 billion turnover.
