Cabinet pulls
out of President's House
Amidst intensified confrontation between President Kumaratunga and
the Ranil Wickremesinghe government and the moves to strip her of
some powers, future cabinet meetings are to be held at the Republic
Building in Fort and not at the President's House.
The first such
cabinet meeting will be held at the Republic Building adjoining
the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday and thereafter all meetings will
be held there, a cabinet minister said.
He said some
of the ministers were not keen on visiting the President's House
to attend the cabinet meeting. This building has been used for Cabinet
meetings during Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake's time and later
during President J. R. Jayewardene's and President Ranasinghe Premadasa's
governments.
