Several cases where live ammunition has to be sent to the Government
Analyst's Department for examination have been held up after last
year's accidental explosion in the department which claimed the
life of a female employee.
Government
Analyst, T.W.B. Pieris said since the incident they have not received
any cases dealing with live ammunition. "We had made a request
to the police not to send live ammunition for examination as it
is risky," he said.
The Government Analyst's Department had requested the police to
defuse the item and send it for examination.
However,
the Police have failed to take action on this request as yet.
"We are awaiting approval from the IGP and have just received
advice from the Attorney General on the matter," SSP Rienzie
Perera at Police Headquarters said.
