Anura's remarks
upset US envoy
The United States is reported to be deeply disturbed over comments
by Presidential Advisor Anura Bandaranaike that President George
W. Bush had come to office after a fraudulent election.
US ambassador
Ashley Wills has sent a letter to Mr. Bandaranaike after watching
a video clipping and listening to the full speech made by Mr. Bandaranaike
at an Ampara rally recently.
Mr. Bandaranaike's
remarks about President Bush's election and his deriding comments
on the Bush-Wickremesinghe summit were highlighted in the local
media.
According to
reports. Mr. Bandaranaike had said President Bush had won the last
election by only some 800 votes and that too after an allegedly
fraudulent poll. In contrast, Mr. Bandaranaike had said he himself
had won by some 10,000 votes.
Mr. Bandaranaike
told The Sunday Times last night he had sent a four-page strong
reply to the ambassador but he would say no more.
