Shakira's
back
Britney
Spears' rude gesture at a group of waiting journalists was condemned
by the media.
The "pop
queen" raised her middle finger to reporters in Mexico last
week. Spears was caught on camera raising her finger.
She was forced
to apologise for the incident on July 23 as she departed at an airport
in Toluca near New Mexico City.
While Britney
apologised she said the excessive paparazzi attention forced her
to make the rude gesture.
'Anyone Of
Us (Stupid Mistake)' by Gareth Jones has competed 3 weeks at the
helm of the UK singles chart this week. For the shy star who has
a stammer it is indeed an achievement.
The single
is the 5th No:1 song to spend as much as 3 weeks at the top of the
chart this year. Last year 6 songs spent 3 or more weeks at No:1.
The highest
new entry of the week was at the No:2 position as S Club Juniors
checked in with "Automatic High". The track is a follow
up to 'One Step Closer' which also entered the chart at the same
position in April and peaked at the identical spot.
The debut single
received better reviews than 'Automatic High.' Although it begins
with a kind of Motown stamp its strain is evident due to the vocal
limitations of the 12-year-old singer.
Shakira the
Colombian pop star is back in the UK singles chart with 'Underneath
Your Clothes'. The song which at times draws similarities with the
Bangles' 'Eternal Flame,' is taken from her debut English album
'Laundry Service'.
'Underneath
Your Clothes' which is Shakira's second global hit follows 'Whenever
Wherever'. The debut hit which peaked at No: 2 in March spent 7
weeks in the top 5, sold over half a million copies and is now the
5th best selling single of the year.
In any case
'Underneath Your Clothes' is a different kind of track when compared
to the previous single since the current hit has strong throaty
flavour giving it greater respectability.
A track from
the movie soundtrack "Legally Blonde" takes on the chart
at No: 6. The song "A Thousand Miles' by Vanessa Carlton has
been picking up in popularity in many parts of the world and now
hits the UK. She is in the class of Lisa Loeb and Nelly Furtado.
The track is
high on keyboard skills with a strong string backing coupled of
course with the touching female vocals of Carlton.
Other songs
from movies on the top 10 this week are 'Work It Out' at No: 13
by Beyonce from the film "Goldmember" and "Hero"
at No: 15 by Chad Kroeger featuring Josey Scott from the film "Spiderman".
Elvis Presley's 'A Little Less Conversation' is also featured in
the movie "Ocean's ll".
Linkin Park
staged a double entry at the No:9 spot with "High Voltage/
Points Of Authority". Both tracks appeared on the group's album
Hybrid Theory but have been remixed as singles since they are to
be featured on the remix-album 'Reanimation'.
Rod Stewart
is likely to be sued for breaking one of his fan's finger at a concert
at Cardiff Castle.
Steve Tudor,
a sculptor was injured while attempting to protect his face from
a football kicked by Rod Stewart at the concert. Stewart kicks footballs
into the audience halfway through his concerts.
Steve Tudor
claims he had to spend 3 hours in hospital and now is finding it
difficult to do his job.
Destiny's Child
member Beyonce Knowles made an amazing revelation to a UK newspaper
when she claimed to have saved the life of a teenage girl who was
on the verge of committing suicide.
The girl had
written to Beyonce claiming she was sad and lonely and wanted to
die. Beyonce claims she promptly telephoned the teenager and spoke
her out of the dreadful thought.
