Workshop
on customer service in IT
The Association of Computer Training Organisations (ACTOS)
is organising a workshop on Customer Service Excellence for the
IT Industry on September 24 at the Galadari Hotel.
The workshop
will be facilitated by Dhammika Kalapuge, Chartered Marketer and
former Vice President-Marketing at DFCC Bank, who has conducted
over a 100 programmes on this subject during the past three years
to many public and private enterprises in the country. The programme
is useful for managers, frontline staff, trainers, back office staff
and support staff in the IT Industry.

NEC, Fenton's
launch NEAX IP
Telephony System
NEC
Singapore Pte Ltd (NEC) and Fenton's Ltd have launched the NEAX
2000 Internet Protocol Server (IPS) and the NEAX 2400 Internet Protocol
eXchange (IPX) in the island.
This IP Telephony
System supports "peer-to-peer" connectivity, as well as
IP transport and traditional Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) telephony,
the companies said in a statement.
They offer
the same reliability and features associated with traditional TDM
Private Branch eXchanges, it said.
They are the
latest step in NEC's Enterprise Open Network concept, the company's
migration strategy for introducing converged networking.
Health counters
at Colombo Pharmacy
The Colombo Pharmacy plans to open Health and Vitality Counters
at its pharmacies, The City Dispensary at Union Place, and I.C.
Drug Stores at Bambalapitiya.
"This
is a specialised field where some of the items displayed for sale
range from vitamins and vitamin supplements to a multitude of Ginseng
preparations," a company statement said.
These two retail
outlets have Pollen B formulae and vitamin supplements from 21st
Century, a company based in the United States, for those who require
relief from stress and others who are battling obesity.
Products specially
manufactured for those with libido problems are also available,
the statement said.
Emirates
launches Morocco holidays for Sri Lankans
Exotic Morocco, the setting for Sri Lanka's pulsating cricketing
triumph recently, is the latest holiday destination being promoted
in Colombo by Emirates, the award-winning Dubai-based international
carrier.
The airline's
Colombo office, in collaboration with Emirates Holidays, has developed
a series of travel plus accommodation packages to suit the purse
of Sri Lankan leisure travellers seeking a new experience.
"These
packages provide a good value-for-money opportunity for Sri Lankans
to visit a place that many associate with the memorable war-time
love story film, Casablanca," Emirates Sales Manager Colombo,
Devika Ellepola said in a statement.
"Guide
Ambuja" camp held in Matara
Another 'Guide Ambuja Camp', aimed at helping house builders,
was held recently in Matara with over 200 current and potential
house builders visiting the camp to obtain information with regard
to house building from Ambuja Cement civil engineers.
All those who
visited the camp were able to obtain as many useful tips as possible
on correct building techniques from Ambuja engineers. House builders,
wives, professionals, government personnel and even housewives with
children visited the camp to gain information and discuss their
individual requirements and problems.
"The response
to the camps has been so good that we will continuing holding these
camps in other areas," said Ambuja's Technical Services Manager,
Jayantha Bandara.
BSS computerises
100 teacher centres
Business Solution Systems (BSS) has computerised 100 teacher
centres island-wide under a World Bank-funded Teacher Education
and Teacher Development project of the Ministry of Education. "This
project was a sequel to an earlier project carried out by BSS under
the World Bank-funded General Education Project II, a pilot project
to install and commission computer labs in eighty schools island-wide,"
a BSS statement said.
"The successful
completion of this project was instrumental in BSS winning the subsequent
order," it said.
BSS, a system
integrator in the Information Communication Technology sector with
special emphasis on connectivity, interfacing and communications
solutions, is a subsidiary of Precision Tech Services and a member
of the Seven Seas Group based in Dubai, UAE.

Japan delegation
here in November
A business delegation from Japan will visit Sri Lanka from
November 24 to 28 to participate in the 13th Joint Meeting of the
Sri Lanka-Japan Business Co-operation Committees (SLJBCC).
It would also,
separately, include one-to-one business meetings between the Japanese
and Sri Lanka businessmen.
The objectives
of the joint meeting are to promote trade, investment and services
including tourism between the two countries, a Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce statement said. In addition as part of the celebration
of 50 years of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Japan, the
SLJBCC with assistance of its counterpart in Japan will organise
a "JapanSri Lanka 21st Century Symposium".
Activities
of the SLJBCC in Sri Lanka are coordinated by the Ceylon Chamber
of Commerce while the activities of the Japan-Sri Lanka Business
Co-operation Committee are coordinated by the Japan Chamber of Commerce
and Industry in Tokyo. The two committees were set up in 1979.
