Liberty nearly
there
Atomic
Kitten's run at the helm of the UK singles chart has been extended
for a third week with the song 'The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)'.
But there was
stiff competition for the No:1 position this week. The song that
came close to ousting 'The Tide Is High' from the No:1 slot is 'Got
To Have Your Love' by Liberty X. According to reports, the gap between
Atomic Kitten's hit and Liberty X at times during the course of
the week was just three figures.
Atomic Kitten's
cover version has turned out to be one this year's most popular
hits. It is reported to be the most requested song on commercial
radio in the UK.
'The Tide Is
High (Get The Feeling)' is the third single to spend three weeks
at the No:1 position in the UK this year.
Liberty X made
a major effort to overtake Atomic Kitten for chart supremacy this
week with the song 'Got to Have Your Love'. It is a follow-up to
the No:1 hit of May called 'Just A Little'.
For the current
single Liberty X has recorded a cover version. The song was originally
a hit that peaked at No:4 in 1990 for the R-n-B act Mantronix. For
the "Popstars" " flopstars" of 2001 'Got To
Have Your Love', is their third Top 20 hit. More could be on the
way.
Kelly Osbourne
checks into the UK singles chart at No:3 with 'Papa Don't Preach'.
If you were wondering if she had any connection to the aging rocker
Ozzy Osbourne - you're dead right. Kelly is the daughter of Ozzy.
The pink-haired
chubby teenager was featured on the MTV documentary "The Osbournes".
Her dad Ozzy released the track 'Dreamer' which featured clips from
the documentary.
Kell's song
was available on import. That alone helped it peak at No: 65 before
it got an official release. The video clip too appears to be popular
and it perhaps contributed to the success of this mini rock remake
of an old Madonna song. The original Madonna version of 'Papa Don't
Preach' was a No:1 hit in 1986.
There is a
formula that seems to work these days when one wants to score a
hit.
Scooter followed
the formula using old lyrics of songs, recorded on a high pitched
sample and shouts of men on and off coupled with crowd noises. Scooter
achieved success with 'The Logical Song' in May/June as it peaked
at No:2 and remained in the Top 20 for nearly a month. Scooter has
followed 'The Logical Song' with 'Nessaja', which peaked at No:4
this week.
Ronan Keating's
new entry 'I Love When We Do', debuted at No:5. The track is only
Ronan's second release from his current album. The first release
'If Tomorrow Never Comes' topped the chart in May. The current single
is an up tempo radio friendly piece written by Gregg Alexander.
TLC is to release
their fourth album '3D' in November. The album comes seven months
after the tragic death of TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
She will be featured on five tracks. A song titled 'Turntable' will
be dedicated to her memory.
The '3D' album
will be produced by Rodney Jerkins, the Neptunes, Missy Elliot,
Timberland and Babyface. The first single 'Quickie' from the album
will be out in late October. Dallas Austin is to produce 'Quickie'.
Ex-Stone Roses
member John Squire claims the band will get back together some day.
That seems impossible because none of the former members of the
group communicate with Squire. News about the reunion or expressions
of interest came as John Squire released his debut solo album 'Time
Changes Everything'.
