CBK attacks
alleged robbers among her ministers
President Chandrika Kumaratunga has accused the government of hounding
four of her most efficient officers during her regime, while ignoring
some of the ex-ministers who she charged had robbed during the PA
regime.
Speaking at
a ceremony in Ratnapura on Friday, the President said there were
four honest Finance Ministry officials who had helped rebuild the
economy during the PA regime but today they were being hounded and
questioned by the CID.
The President
said the pro-government media were today accusing those officers
of being rogues but she charged that the real robbers were some
ministers in her regime.
The President
said she was alarmed that more and more corrupt people were coming
into politics and she believed steps were necessary to safeguard
the youth from this corruption.
President Kumaratunga
was due to arrive for the function around 10 a.m., but eventually
arrived around 2. p.m. and kept lots of children waiting.
