Barbara
Segal productions at Oberoi
The Lanka Oberoi in it's endeavour to bring quality entertainment
to the Sri Lankan audience, brings forth Giacomo Puccini's "La
Boheme", and "Hurray for Hollywood" performed by
Opera and Concert Productions Worldwide of Britain, headed by Barbara
Segal.
One of Puccini's
greatest Operas, "La Boheme" is a story set within the
artists' quarter of turn-of-the-century Paris. This powerful &
emotionally charged story of romance, sacrifice and tragedy is based
on the stormy and tragic love between Mimi, the ill-fated seamstress,
and Rodolfo, the penniless poet. However, Puccini's tragic tale
of doomed love is not without humour - the laddish antics of the
men, all of them starving as they try to make a precarious living
from their artistic talents, the hectic night life and amusement
of enjoying new found money... and somewhere among all this horseplay
the tender love story of the dying Mimi and her poet Rodolfo manages
to take root...
Puccini's romantic
Opera is splendidly brought to life by the vibrant and extremely
talented cast. If you've never been to an opera before this could
well be the one that gets you hooked.
''Hurray for
Hollywood" as the best of Broadway will be presented in the
form of a lighthearted musical. What could be more exciting than
a lively performance of unforgettable numbers from South Pacific,
West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, The Wizard of Oz, Gigi, My
Fair Lady, Carousal, Annie Get Your Gun and many more all-time favourites.
Snazzy, jazzy numbers guaranteed to get the audience dancing in
the aisles and shouting for more.
The show has
been compiled, staged and choreographed by some of Britain's newest
and most exciting choreographers who are winners of numerous dance
and choreography awards. "Hurray for Hollywood" is fabulously
costumed and a great evening's entertainment.
Oktoberfest
in Hilton Style
The Oktoberfest at the Hilton Colombo , probably the most
authentic Munich-style festival of beer and merrymaking in the country.
Three Coins
beer will be this years exclusive beer supplier to the Oktoberfest
and this will be another demonstration of the growing potential
for world-class specialty beers.
The Oktoberfest
, which will be on from November 7 to 16 for the second successive
year, Sri Lanka's only specialty brewer said the company plans to
produce an unprecedented 12 specialty beers for the festival this
year, giving connoisseurs the widest choice ever tasted in this
country.
"We take
our commitment to cater to the gourmet-savvy consumers very seriously,
and our offering at the Oktoberfest this year will include some
beers that have not been brewed in Asia before," Janaka Jayasinghe
head of brewing at Three Coins said.
On offer on
tap, in bottles, cans and via sophisticated mobile dispensers this
year will be "Kolsch", a refreshing beer originating from
the Cologne region in Germany, "Kristall Weiss" , "Dunkel
Weiss", "Dunkel Bock", "Lemon Bock", "Scottish
Export Ale", "Belgian-style Corriander-spiced Pils",
"Oktoberfest Brew" and the regular retail beers in the
Three Coins portfolio, Three Coins lager, 3 C Irish Dark, 3 Coins
Riva and Sando Stout.
"The Oktoberfest",
Mr. Jayasinghe said, "will be an exposition dedicated to show
consumers that there is much more to beer than just lager.
However we
are also producing for the beer festival a pedestrian-style lager
in acknowledgement of Sri Lanka's narrow and simplistic brewing
tradition in the past, before the introduction of specialty brewing
by Three Coins."
Besides beer,
Three Coins will also provide a marquee purpose -engineered by head
of Three Coins engineering Rohitha Perera, to host the festivities.
The elegant marquee will be set up at the Hilton's Sports Centre
Car Park for the Oktoberfest to ensure that merrymaking takes place
in a style typified by taste preferences and sensibilities of the
Three Coins Company.
According to
a press release from Three Cions, the Hilton Oktoberfest is the
second event with ambitions to create genuine value and be better
that has made Three Coins the beer of choice, in the past two months.
The other was the ICC Champions Trophy matches for which World Sports
Nimbus selected Three Coins to ensure that both the beer and the
service given to cricket fans were to international standards.
