registered a first innings win over Royal in the Under 19 inter-schools
cricket match concluded at the De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa.

Wijeratne making 58. Thurstan in reply were 241 for 9 when stumps
were drawn with skipper Damith Indika scoring 55.

Inter-School cricket match at Peradeniya yesterday.
The visitors
did well to restrict Kingswood to 183 but then succumbed to the
spin of left armer Niroshan Perera (5 for23) and were skittled out
for 114. Skipper Milinda Wattegedera also enjoyed a good game.

in only his second match (his first as opener) blazed away with
some brilliant pulls and drives.
The partnership
between him and Thushara Sampath for the second wicket yielded 170
runs. Left arm spinner Balahewa picked up four wickets.

A fine all-round performance by Kosala Kulasekera was not enough
to bring Vidyartha a win over St. Mary's Kegalle in their Division
2 match at Police grounds.
Kulasekera picked
up 5 for 11 in 16.1 overs and then proceeded to top score in thematch
with 81 (2 sixes, 7 fours).Off spinner Gangoda had seven wickets
in the game for the Marians. Wijeratne batted well in both innings.

improve its position

Even though Sri Lanka is in need of a lot of foreign exposure they
have been ranked 140th in the world in the FIFA World Cup Football
ranking and have improved by two places in the FIDA Asia ranking
coming two places up from 26 to 24 out of the 43 Asian Countries.
India has been ranked 22 Pakistan 31, Maldives 27 and Bhutan 42.

send Tamil Union crashing

Medium pacers Duleep Liyanage and Eric Upashantha picked up four
wickets each as Colts SC sent Tamil Union crashing to 126 all out
in Premier League Division one game at Havelock Park yesterday.
Colts extended
their domination over their visitors when they finished the day
on an impressive 127 for 3 wickets with Chaminda Mendis completing
a stylish half century.
Tamil Union began the day at 86 for 5 and lost their last five wickets
soon as they were bundled out for 126 with medium pacers Eric Upashantha
(4/61) and Duleep Liyanage (4/28) doing the damage.
In reply the
hosts were given a fine start with Chaminda Mendis compiling a fine
58 to help Colts to 127/3 and take first innings points already

Not a ball was bowled for the second successive day in the Premier
League Division one match between SSC and NCC at Maitland Place
despite bright sunshine yesterday. Friday's heavy downpour left
the SSC outfield in a soggy condition which prompted the umpires
to call off play late in the afternoon after several inspections.

to continue with Schools 7s

After successfully staging the Isipatana Inter National Schools
Rugby 7s, as part of their Golden Jubilee celebrations. It proved
an instant success.
Jamie Scott,
the Secretary General of the Asian Rugby Union, and Secretary International
Rugby Board (IRB Asia), witnessed the tournament. Scott was pleased
with the excellent organisation and for the development of junior
rugby in Asia.
He has recommended
to IRB and to ARFU that an International Asian Under-19 Schools
7s tournament to be staged in Sri Lanka annually. It will be for
especially for Asian Schools, but other nations are eligible to
participate, if they desire to do so.
The IRB 7s Manager,
Mark Egan, and Regional Development Manager Asia, Jarrad Gallaghan,
after going through the report sent by Scott, has requested Isipatana
College rugby committe to continue with the School International
7s. The IRB will help them with men and material.
Dilroy Fernando,
Chairman Patana Rugby Committee, when contacted by The Sunday Times
confirmed the ARFU request. The committee is seriously considering
the request. Even local sponsors have agreed to support it and for
its continuity, Fernando said.
