No comment on
court decision: Lokubandara
By Harinda Vidanage
Responding to charges that he was silent over the sentencing of
LTTE leader Prabhakaran for the Central Bank bombing Justice Minister
W.J.M Lokubandara told The Sunday Times he need not make any comments
on decisions handed down by the High Court.
He said the
verdict given by the court shows the independence of the judiciary
under this government.
The PA had charged
that he was silent while the former justice minister was making
statements on the decision.
Mr. Lokubandara
said the peace process is not centred on an individual and would
continue even if the Prime Minister is taken out of the process.
Mr. Lokubandara
also said that even the court decision on the 19th Amendment to
the Constitution shows the government has never meddled with the
affairs of the judiciary and added the recent court decision would
not have any impact on the peace talks.
