Nimesh,Dinusha star in Sebs win

Five wickets from Nimesh Perera and an unbeaten 44 by Dinusha Fernando helped Sebastianites to record a six wicket victory over Moratuwa SC at the Moratuwa Stadium yesterday.

Batting first Moratuwa SC were bundled out for 113 with Nimesh Perera picking up five wickets. In reply Sebs reached their target in the 28th over to be 116 for 4 wickets

Discarded all rounder Kumar Dharmasena captured five wickets as Bloomfield bowled out SSS for 198 runs in a Premier League Limited over game at Maitland Place yesterday.

Apart from a solid 82 from left hander Hemantha Wickremaratne the rest of the SSC batting crumbled as Kumar Dharmasena took full control with his slow off cutters. Bloomfield replied with 5 for no loss when rain halted any further play.

Panadura skittled out for 125
CCC medium pacers Mario Villawarayan(4/19) and Indika Gallage(3/25) teamed up to bowl out Panadura for 125 at the Panadura Esplande yesterday.

Sri Lanka medium pacer Charitha Buddhika proved his allround capabilities when he top scored for the host team with an unbeaten 49.CCC replied with 4 for no loss when rain and bad light halted play.

Galle win on D/L system
Galle CC did well to beat the rains and record a win on the Duckworth/Lewis system against Chilaw Marians at the FTZ grounds Katunayake.

After bowling out Chilaw Marians for 169 runs in 40 overs the visitors reached 71 for 2 in 25 overs when rain halted play.

Desmond Fernando to fix match-fixers
The International Cricket Council has requested Mr. Micael Beloff QC, President of Trinity College Oxford and Mr. Desmond Fernando PC Past President of the International Bar Association to review the Mottley Report from the West Indies Cricket Board on match fixing in the West Indies and the report of Justice Bhandari on match fixing in Pakistan. The review will take place in England in early December.

According to Mr. Fernando he is expected to give his views on both reports and indicate as to whether the reports could be accepted or not. In addition Mr. Fernando and Mr. Beloff will have to recommend as to what action the ICC should take on these reports.-MF

Peradeniya emerge Inter-University cricket champions

The University of Peradeniya cricket team led by Matale Old Thomian Nalaka Ratnayake emerged champions at the Inter University cricket tournament, beating the host University, Moratuwa, in the final by 57 runs.

This triumph was especially sweet as the Peradeniya undergrads hadn't laid their hands on this prized possession for around two decades. In addition to skipper Ratnayake, his deputy, Suneth Chandraratne (an old Anthonian) and opener D. Sanjaya featured prominently.

Peradeniya beat Colombo, which had Hemantha Boteju, a Sri Lankan one day player in their ranks, in an early round. Dr. Buddhi Marambe was in charge of the team. The University of Peradeniya team comprised Nalaka Ratnayake (Capt.), Suneth Chandraratne, Pushpanath Dharmasena, D. Sanjaya, Nalin Karunaratne, Upul Bandara, Amila Maduragoda, Chamara Seneviratne, Ishan Gamanpila, S. Maheepala, Joseph Fernando, A. Rangika, C. Duminda, D. Heshan and S. Devinda.

1st Round Peradeniya beat Rajarata by 7 wkts. Rajarata 51 (P. Jagath 21; S. Chandraratne 4/12, I. Gamanpila 3/23).

First innings win for St Peter's

In a rain affected cricket match St Peter's registered a first innings win over St Sylvester's in the Under 19 inter- school encounter concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday. In reply to the Sylvesterians score of 114 the Peterites were 178 for 9 when rain stopped play at 3.00 p.m.

On the first days play S. Thomas' were 156 for 9 against Dharmarajah in the Under 19 inter- school cricket match which began at Mt Lavinia yesterday. The match was stopped early due to heavy rain.

Old Peterites registered a six wicket win over Egodauyana SC in the Inter - Club Division Three cricket match played at the Katubedda Campus grounds on Saturday. Egodauyana SC taking first lease of the wicket scored 139 in 44.4 overs. Old Peterites made the required runs in just 25.3 overs.

Two wins for Greenfield SC
A splendid allround performance by Greenfield SC skipper Chintana Pushpamal enabled them to register two wins in the Inter- Club Division cricket match palyed at the FTZ grounds in Katunayake. In the first match Greenfield SC defeated Gampaha Sc by two wickets with Chintana taking 3 for 15 and then hitting an unbeaten 93.

In the second game they beat FTZ SC by six wickets with Chintana making an unbeaten 53.
