Ratwatte before
bribery commission
By Tania Fernando
Former PA minister Anuruddha Ratwatte has been summoned before the
Bribery and Corruption commission for an inquiry on Wednesday.
A commission
official said they wanted to question Mr. Ratwatte on the Rs. 40
million worth of Certificates of Deposits found in bank vaults belonging
to him and his family members.
The official
said the commission had obtained details of Mr. Ratwatte's assets
declarations, tax returns and income particulars.
He said Mr.
Ratwatte had failed to declare the Certificate of Deposits in his
asset declaration form submitted to Parliament.
An investigation
into the wealth of the former minister began after the CID searched
bank vaults belonging to the Ratwatte family following a tip-off
that the lockers contained drugs and weapons.
However, on
searching the bank vaults the CID found CDs valued at over Rs. 40
million issued by various banks. The case was then handed over to
the Bribery Commission for further investigation.
