'King of Sri Lankan Calypso' : Noel on CD
Sri Lankan style Calypso Music will get a tremendous boost with the release of Noel Brian Ranasinghe's new album titled "King of Sri Lankan Calypso", which is a production of Torana.

The new album contains the all time hits of Noel Brian Ranasinghe, making it a number one promotional item for Sri Lanka, with songs such as "Welcome to Sri Lanka", The Kandy Perahera", "Cricket Lovely Cricket", "Ayubowan", "Peace Love Freedom Unity", "Hoiya Hoiya", "Vinode Gamane", "Tharuna Jeevite", "Malee and any more with instrumentals like Calypso Baila and Kaffringna Baila. This is the first time two Latin American melodies(Calypso Baila and Kaffringna Baila) to make it an album full of variety, full of rich quality music.

The pulsating rhythms of "Kandy Perahera" with many drums used for the recordings by Nesan Thyagaraj, to the sounds of guitars, oboe, percussions, and three parts vocals by Noel himself makes it enjoyable. Noel was also responsible for all the vocals in most of the songs arranged by him, including the adaptations to two other melodies.

Music backing was by Stanley Peries and "Fortunes", Jagath Wickramasinghe, Rohana Weerasinghe, Kithsiri Fernando, Rolinson Ferdinando, Ranjith Perera, Nesan Thyagaraj, Rajive and the Clan.

"If not for Rajive forcing me so much to do, a recording the album would not have become a reality," said Noel.

Sri Lanka already famous for its cricket, and other sports, will come on top of the music world with so much very good talent available over here. Noel hopes that "Sony" - E.M.I. and others would tie up with our local publishers to give our talent worldwide exposure.

"Our own Kaffringna (Baila) Calypso, and beat music is of a very high standard, all it needs is exposure", said Noel, who is now looking forward to doing many recordings in the future.
