Communicating
by candle-light!
Two
men use a candle to take a call from an unlit payphone booth.
The surviving payphone operator, Tritel, says the industry
has collapsed for lack of government support and exorbitant
charges. Most booths are unlit because Tritel cannot afford
the Rs. 50,000 fee per booth charged by the Ceylon Electricity
Board to provide a connection. (See also Page 15 for connected
story). Pic. by M.A. Pushpakumara.
