400 convicts
in LTTE prisons
By Chris Kamalendran
Some 400 persons convicted by LTTE courts are being held in LTTE
controlled prisons in Mullaitivu.
LTTE's Legal
and Administration chief Iliyathamby Pararajasigham better known
as 'Para' said the persons held were all Tamils and had been found
guilty of offences including murder, rape, robbery and brewing of
illicit liquor.
He said since
1992 more than 23,000 cases had been taken up by the LTTE and only
in 800 of these cases had there been appeals, with 52 of them being
referred to the special bench. He said they were willing to allow
any international body to visit the male and female prisoners and
look into their welfare. The courts have so far ordered four executions,
three for rape and one for murder.
