PA to continue
talks with India
As a follow up to the visit to New Delhi by a top-level PA delegation,
a group of PA MPs are to visit Thamilnadu soon for talks with Chief
Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram and others.
Presidential
Advisor Anura Bandaranaike said the PA was focusing on India as
it believed India's role was important for Sri Lanka and thus Indian
leaders needed to be given a full picture of what was happening.
Mr. Bandaranaike
who along with ex ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sarath Amunugama
held talks with Indian premier Atal Behari Vajpayee and others said
India had not changed its stand on the LTTE which is banned in that
country with LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran being wanted for
murder.
Mr. Bandaranaike
said they had explained to the Indian leaders the stand taken by
President Kumaratunga and the PA on the current peace process. "India
has been given the wrong impression. We explained our stand. As
an Opposition we felt it was our duty to brief the Indian leaders,"
Mr. Bandaranaike said.
