Rahubadde
has Ama in a dual role

The maiden directorial effort of popular novelist Sumithra
Rahubadde has as its star Ama Shakya Wijesekera who acts the dual
roles of Chaya and Sarqa. It is a joint venture, ready for release
soon, between New Zealand-Sri Lanka.

Ama
is our cover girl this week. In
addition to Ama, some New Zealand actors too are cast among the
local stars.
This 25-episode
teledrama 'Sara' had its location shooting in New Zealand for nearly
two months.
The story revolves
around Sri Lankan migrants Carl Siriwardena and Veronica living
in Auckland with their children. Fifteen-year old Sara is Carl's
daughter by his first marriage. Her father, a university lecturer
was far away from home when the nuclear war broke out.
The whole country
is devastated by the war. Sara was confined to a small room havinglittle
or no ventilation. In the room with her was stepmother Veronica
and step sister Katherine and step brother William.
They have no
clue to the whereabouts of their father. Knowing that they are at
the doorstep of death, they struggle to survive. And Chaya a Sri
Lankan girl living in the nuclear prevention centre fights to get
out of the centre. Her boy friend is Ryan.
He was preparing
to leave the bunker. General Mackie, managing the centre, does not
allow Ryan to move out. But he (Ryan) resents the way General Mackie
runs the Centre.
While Ama Wijesekara
plays the dual roles of Chaya and Sara, Michael Benjamin, a New
Zealand actor and Mr. New Zealand in 1999, plays Ryan's character.
Dulika Marapana
(Veronica), Keerthi Pasquel (Carl), Duneeshya Gunasekara (Katherine),
Pasindu Wijesundara (William) play the other major roles while Benjamin
Mitchell, Alex Lee and Anastasia Smirnova are the New Zealanders
included in the cast.
Scripted, produced
and co-directed by Sumithra Rahubadde with Sudath Devapriya the
tele play is edited by Ravindra Guruge. Music is directed by Tharpathy
Munasinghe.
Kumar
turns forty
Popular TV and Media personality Kumar de Silva turns 40
years 'young', this Friday December 20. Kumar of Bonsoir Fame who
is a very popular and versatile compere, is still remembered by
his numerous fans as being the dynamic presenter of ITN's 'Fanclub'
music programme for a record 14 unbroken years until he quit in
May this year.
He's still
on the 'Bonsoir' French Magazine as producer, presenter and has
been doing so since 1986, making it a record seventeen unbroken
years.
"However,
of all the television programmes I've done in nearly twenty years,
the one closest to my heart is 'Dhamma in Daily Life', the Buddhist
discussion programme in English. I've been presenting on ITN every
Poya night since Wesak 1993", he says.
Kumar now channels
all his creative energies, full time, into 'Adahas', the successful
public relations and media consultancy company he runs with his
wife Tharindra.
What does it
feel like being 40? "Top of the World!!! And also, far more
regular visits to the gym", he said.
'Dummala
Warama' at Tower Hall
'Dummala
Warama', a stage play directed by Ranjith De Alwis will be staged
at the Tower Hall on December 18.
Gamini
Hettiarachchi, Sanath Wimalasiri, Nilanthi Dias, Manohari Wimalatunge
and Rajitha Chamikara ( better known as Pin Pong) are the actors
and music director is Edward Jayakody.
