President, PM
to revive cohabitation
President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe
will meet early January to discuss ways of reviving the co-habitation
process.
The meeting
will take place after Mr. Wickremesinghe returns from a tour to
the far East and it comes in the wake of President Kumaratunga calling
for the appointment of a committee to strengthen the cohabitation
process and the Prime Minister agreeing, a spokesman for the Prime
Minister's office said.
On Friday, the
Prime Minister discussed the issue with former Foreign Minister
Lakshman Kadirgamar once again. The move comes after LTTE chief
negotiator Anton Balasingham declared in Oslo early that the government
should ensure it had the majority in parliament to pass necessary
constitutional amendments to implement decisions taken at the peace
talks.
