Liberty Plaza
security men attacked

A security firm handling the Liberty Plaza apartments has
accused the Kollupitiya police of failing to act against a gang
which attacked the security chief and others on Christmas day.
An official
of the firm said the incidents had started when a security officer
confronted a man who had been knocking on a third floor apartment
door when the residents were apparently not there.
The man was
then asked to go down and talk to the chief security officer and
three others had joined him. One of them allegedly pulled out a
weapon and threatened the security chief before they left. Later
a gang of about 10 had raided the complex, attacking the chief security
officer and others. The officer said they had called the Kollupitiya
police who rushed there to settle the matter. But he alleged that
the police officer in charge had spoken to two of the suspects and
then let them go.
The security
officer said that when they went to the Kollupitiya police station
and made a further complaint, little or no action was taken. The
private security firm has now petitioned the Interior Minister and
the Police Chief to act on this matter. An officer of the Kollupitiya
police said they had recorded all statements and were conducting
investigations. He said the incident involved some casino employees.
