Mangala
likely to meet Somawansa

The Chief opposition whip Mangala Samaraweera was expected
to meet JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe in London as the SLFP moved
closer towards joining hands with the JVP while possibly breaking
links with traditional left parties.
JVP propaganda
secretary Wimal Weerawansa who is reported to be coordinating talks
for the proposed alliance, however declined to confirm the London
meeting.
JVP parliamentarian
Nandana Gunathileke said they were interested in an alliance on
two grave issues-the impending division of the country and the economic
calamity. While Mr. Samaraweera and other SLFP frontliners are known
to be backing the proposed alliance with the JVP, strong opposition
has been expressed by the LSSP and the CP.
Paradise
regained
The London Times
put Sri Lanka as one of the top ten holiday destinations in a feature
article published yesterday in its well-regarded travel section.
The newspaper
restored Sri Lanka to its once prime position after years of bad
publicity owing to the northern insurgency.
The British
Foreign and Commonwealth Office earlier this month listed Sri Lanka
in their travel advisary as a country where parts of it ( the north
and east) should be avoided by British nationals.
This listing
was also published in the same newspaper after the recent bombing
in Kenya.
Yesterday's
article in the Times was referred to as ' from not to go - to where
to go '.
