Cradle-snatcher
in Trinco hospital
From Sinniah Gurunathan in Trincomalee
The
Trincomalee General Hospital began the New Year with a shock when
a mystery woman is reported to have abducted a new born baby girl.
It was a horrifying
experience for the 20-year-old mother, Samsun Nihara of Mullipottana,
who had given birth to her second child around 7 a.m. on December
31. According to hospital sources, the mystery began around 3 p.m.
on New Year's eve when an unidentified woman came to the maternity
ward and took away the child claiming a medical officer wanted the
baby for an examination. The baby was not seen after that, sending
alarm bells instead of New Year bells ringing around the hospital.
The hospital's
new medical superintendent, Dr. (Mrs.) P.K. Gnanagunalan, who had
assumed duties only two days ago acted fast and called in police
who in turn alerted all stations to look out for the mystery woman
and the baby. Picture shows Samsun Nihara, the victim of the mysterious
cradle-snatching episode in the Trincomalee hospita soon after the
incident.
