SLRC assures
coverage without no-balls

Uninterrupted coverage of all six balls of the
over during the world cup cricket matches was assured to viewers
by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation yesterday.
SLRC Chairman
Ganganath Dissanayake said Rupavahini had taken up the World Cup
telecasting as one of its national duties and thus would make sure
that all six balls of an over and other important parts like replays
would be shown without advertisements interrupting them.
Prof. Dissanayake
said the SLRC was trying to receive a clean feed of the matches
- a direct reception without receiving it via another channel. He
said this would minimise the problem of foreign advertisements popping
up at unwanted times such as before the end of an over or when a
replay was being shown.
With the cricket
World Cup starting today SLRC has also expanded the coverage by
its Eye channel to enable more cricket fans to watch their heroes
in action.
SLRC started
to transmit its Eye channel yesterday via a transmission tower at
Enselwatte in Deniyaya. The Moneragala, Hambantota, Matara and Galle
districts and parts of Ratnapura and Kalutara districts would be
covered by this new transmission.
SLRC Additional
Director General Upali Arambewela said that areas of these districts
which had earlier received the Eye channel would get a better reception
now and this transmission would cater to more than three million
viewers.
SLRC officials
said the transmission could be received on UHF channel 41 with the
antenna normally in use and that no additional antenna accessories
would be required.
