The SLFP while negotiating to link up with the JVP to form a broader
opposition alliance has stepped up its media campaign by launching
a newspaper focused totally on the SLFP JVP alliance and will be
re launching the official SLFP news paper Dinakara next Month.
The new newspaper,
titled Nijabima, is owned and published by a company named Colombo
Newspapers. Ex-minister Mangala Samaraweera's strongman Ruwan Ferdinandez
is the person behind the operation and is the Managing Director
of Colombo Newspapers. Nelson S. Perera has been appointed the editor.
Tthe official
SLFP newspaper Dinakara, which was closed down due to internal problems,
will be republished under a new management.
President Chandrika
Kumaratunga has nominated four names to be included in this management
team as well as appointing Hudson Samarasinghe as the Managing Director.
The team includes former minister Mervyn Silva who still has a court
case pending on the assault of a journalist.
