'Daredevil: The Man without Fear'
By Harinda Vidanage
Once again a marvel comic character has topped the Hollywood list for some consecutive weeks. It seems that the Spiderman mania of the kids will be replaced by the Daredevil mania of the teens and who knows the young at heart always thinking of justice outside or above the law.

Marvel Comics 'Daredevil: The Man without Fear' made his first appearance in 1964 at the height of the comic universe's "silver age." This period also saw the origins of other Marvel stalwarts such as The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, The Mighty Thor, The X-Men and Spider-Man. Since then, Daredevil has become one of the most popular comic book heroes of all time

The latest venture by the marvel franchise into the big screen has become quite successful a comic book hero in the late sixties and seventies is reawakened in the movie Dare Devil or the man without fear played by Ben Affleck. The combination of the two lives of the superhero in the movie is quite marvellous as a young blind committed lawyer by day who becomes a vigilante in the dark with extraordinary fighting and acrobatic talents.

The Dare Devil movie is filled with special effects and stunts that needed to be commented and this super hero is quite exceptional as he has made his or rather as all super heroes in marvel comics portray is exposed to a certain radioactive isotope but the exception is that he is blinded. The good news is that this contributes in hyper development of all his other senses and specially the radar like sound detection system.

All almost all scenes when the young lawyer Murdock turns into the Daredevil is portrayed in the night as his senses are best at work in the dark. Also starring is Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, Matt Murdock's girlfriend a martial arts expert. The Daredevil-Elektra / Affleck-Garner dynamic makes the film the sexiest and most morally complex comic book movie ever.

The bad guys in the setup include Michael Clarke Duncan as Wilson Fisk, New York's Kingpin of Crime; and Colin Farrell as Bullseye, the assassin with perfect aim. Jennifer Garner is a new comer to the scene all her other appearances are limited to TV.

The interesting factor in making this film was as the director has mentioned in an interview has been the portrayal of the Dare Devil. Especially what type of suite should he be done in? The major problem has been the fear of making a hero ahead or behind time. Finally they had settled for the maroon full leather outfit which many critics say is not a spoiling factor.

Though criticized by some as a movie out of sorts it has entertainment value and can be recommended as a good film which all generations can enjoy and is on par with the quality entertainment which Spiderman delivered last year.

XXX action in the city
Action packed thriller starring Hollywood actor Vin Diesel as 'Xander Cage', 'XXX' will be released at the Majestic cinema from March 28.

The movie revolves around an underground thrill seeker forced to cooperate with the US government to bust a Russian crime ring. Diesel's outrageous thrill seeking exploits, parachuting out of a stolen car as it plunges 700 feet off a bridge or being chased by villains in a killer sky scene reminds the audience of another James Bond movie series. The spy thriller is bent on turning Vin Diesel into the next big action hero. Diesel plays Xander Cage, a bald, buff, tattooed rebel with a cause. He is a sports junkie and lover of hot cars. He pulls death-defying stunts to frustrate the establishmentall recorded for an underground Web site.

We meet him as he is stealing and wrecking the car of a senator opposed to point-and-shoot video games and rap music. Then the feds close in. Needing an expendable operative with street smarts, the National Security Agency shanghais him, promising to wipe his slate clean if he cooperates. A sports rebel who is recruited by the U.S. government to infiltrate an underground band of roughnecks in Prague. Skydiving, racing, biking and boarding his way through various adventures, the man makes sure to remove his shirt every now and again and take a shot at saving the world.

Xander winds up in Czechoslovakia playing spy games in order to keep anarchists from unleashing a biological weapon on the world's major cities. He is a quick study. He is just another in a long line of amoral agents loaded down with guns and gadgets, assigned to fuel male fantasies. The content isn't far afield from a hip James Bond film with lots of explosions and gunplay. The film is released in Sri Lanka by Cinema Entertainment Limited.

'40 Days & 40 Nights'
'40 Days & 40 Nights', a sex comedy with Josh Hartnett as acrazy play boy is now run to the capacity crowds at the Liberty Cinema.

Josh Hartnett stars as Matt, a website designer who seems to do inordinately well, when it comes to the ladies. Th movie is a good entertainment that reflect the real bachelor life.

However when Matt is dumped by his girlfriend he comes to realize that he is too dependent on sex and decides to give it up at least for Lent period. That is 'No sex whatsoever', for 40 days and 40 nights. Naturally, his smutty colleagues immediately start making a book on how long he'll last.

And then he meets a girl call Erica (Shannyn Sossamon) who appears to be his woman. So, frankly, quite why he doesn't just say 'sod the vow' there and then is anybody but if he did that, you either wouldn't have a movie or it would be a lot shorter and called 'days'.

The film's funniest moments are centred around the sneaky attempts by his colleagues to win the bet by making him 'crack' on their chosen days, as well as Matt's hallucinatory fantasies like seeing naked women everywhere as he starts to crack up.

A entertainment sex comedy in which Hartnett plays a young swears off all types of sex contact for Lent, with disastrous results. ' 40 Nights and 40 Days' is directed by Michael Lehmann

But do not forget, this comes with the adult tag to the Liberty.
