Apparel Show to boost the industry
Some of Sri Lankans to musicians, singers composers and lyricists will come together as one foundation to boost the image of the Lanka's Apparel Industry.

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) conducted a briefing for some of Sri Lanka's leading musicians a foundation to the JAAF's launch of a unique campaign to enhance the positive image of the Apparel industry.

The JAAF campaign focuses on issues relevant to all aspects of the industry with a unique way to get the message across - conveying the message through Iyrics and music.

The intention is to access the emotions of the public through music and then expand their awareness of the Apparel sector, and its primary element - its work force.

The campaign will rely on the many talents of its contributors of such calibre as Victor Ratnayake, Rookantha Gunatilake, Deepika Priyadarshani, Nirosha Virajani, Bathiya and Santush,Rohana Weerasinghe, Ranga Dissanayake, Anthony Surendra, Hushi and Ruwan, Nilar M. Cassim, Kapila Kumara, Sarath Perera, Ratnasiri Wijesingha, Ajantha Ranasinghe, Senanayake Werraliyadda and Bandula Nanayakarawasam. These artistes will collectively write, compose and sing songs that will meet with the requirements of the task at hand - mainly to create awareness as to what it means to be an Apparel industry employee. Further to the reality is the hope that the music will also inspire people to see Apparel industry employment more positively.

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) was created as the apex body of the Apparel sector. Its purpose is to steer the Apparel sector to better develop itself with a long-term strategy.

The membership is made up of all trade associations representing the Apparel industry as well as other invited members. The JAAF has set up many committees to better develop the industry, and one of them - Labour Initiatives Committee - pioneers efforts to improve the general condition of the Apparel lndustry with a particular interest in creating awareness of the pivotal role of Apparel's working force.

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) was itself formed as a direct result of the government policy of appointing several steering committees to take forward the development plans identified in the document "Regaining Sri Lanka".

This plan document, which was introduced at the end of 2002, required sectoral committees to be set up to oversee the specific needs and issues of different sectors.

The five-year apparel strategy plan developed by this committee, which consists of industry and government representatives is an integral part of the "Regaining Sri Lanka" strategy.

The JAAF which is the apex body of all clothing related industry / business associations will implement the five year strategy with the support and backing of the government.

The campaign, which was launched to enhance the image of the apparel industry and its workforce in a positive manner, is one of the initiatives being implemented .
