Hettiaratchchi wins at golf
Old Royalisyt Nirmal Hettiaratchchi won the A Division Handicap with (42) at the Mercedes Benz Country Golf Finals worked off at the RCGC yesterday.
For the first time in the annals of golf at the RCGC 220 golfers took part in the competition sponsored by Dimos.

The first runner-up of Group 'A' was Mohan Ratnayake with 39 points.
In Group B the winner was A. Iddamalgoda (48) and the runner-up was Kumar Boralessa (44). Group C Handicap winner: Shevain Arasakularatne. Runner-up: Amal Cabraal (42).

All winners and runners-up in the three groups will qualify to take part in the Regional Finals to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.

Hockey coaching camps in Badulla
Uva Hockey Association has decided to conduct several Hockey Coaching camps in Badulla to improve the standard of hockey in Uva. As a first measure a two-day coaching camp for boys Under 15 will be conducted at Badulla on June 6 and 7.

This coaching camp is being organised by the Uva Hockey Association. The president of the UHA Mr. Vincent Dias, member of the Uva Provincial Council is now working round the clock to improve the standard of hockey in Uva. In the recent past Uva Hockey Association has failed to participate in the National tournaments due to non-function of league tournaments.

According to the Secretary Mr. R.M. Gunasekera, arrangements are now being made to conduct several tournaments for clubs and schools in the recent past.
All schools in Uva have been informed about the coaching camp.

Junior Athletic C’ships in Badulla
The Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka has decided to conduct the Junior National Athletic Championships at Badulla this year on June 6, 7 and 8 at the Vincent Dias Stadium.

This year the Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) of Sri Lanka has decided to add one more age category, i.e., Under 23 for Boys and Girls in addition to Under 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.

Mr. Bernard Perera, Assistant Secretary, A.A.A. of Sri Lanka, No. 33, Torrington Avenue, Colombo 7 will accept entries for these Championships on or before May 20 this year.

The AAA has decided to select a Junior International pool and those selected will be granted Rs. 2000/- per month during training period and for this purpose standard timings have been set for all events. -VTR
