Breathtakingly beautiful

June, the wedding season, is a time when some people's dreams come true. Most often, or always, it is the brides who are the stars as everyone's eyes are on them on the big day. So what's in vogue for brides this year?

Like many trends, which tend to be cyclical, the '60s look is back once again.

If you're wondering about colour, you can expect shades of white, gold and off-white to predominate. "Even though in the past they moved away from these colours, we have come back to them," says hair and beauty expert Ramani Fernando.

Where jewellery is concerned, it's time to dig out the family heirlooms. Long earrings are all the rage. "It really is a pretty sight to see the brides wearing this kind of jewellery," says Ramani. But she cautions that one should not go overboard. It's the classic look you have to aim for.

Make up on the big day? Go natural. People are moving away from the really made-up look that makes you look older and more mature, in favour of the toned down look. This, of course, really depends on the individual as at times you can get your eyes done up while playing down your lip tone. "The use of gloss lipstick would make you look young and have a great effect," says Ramani.

Flowers always enhance the bride's ensemble and floral trends too change with every season. Posies are in demand when it comes to bouquets this year. "Most often it's the very plain flowers," says Ramani, adding that if the bride is tall, a long bouquet would be perfect for her, but once again, it all depends on the individual.

Brides most often wear their hair up for practical purposes. Says Ramani, the bride has to stay dressed for up to eight hours so it is more realistic to have her hair up than down.

But having their hair up would make some brides look really mature. "Therefore, it is best for them to have a trial. You can also have rollers and leave your hair loose for a more romantic look and a soft effect," says Ramani.

The models featured here had their hair and make up done by Ramani Fernando and her team. They were photographed by Mettasena at the Trans Asia Hotel.
