Interim
Council draft today
The government's peace delegation will meet Prime Minister Ranil
Wickremesinghe today to finalise the 'concrete' proposals to be
submitted to the LTTE on the setting up of an interim administration.
The Sunday
Times learns that the government will stick to its original offer
of an 'Interim Administration', despite the LTTE elevating its demand
for an 'Interim State' at last week's Pongu Thamil celebrations.
Government's
chief negotiator G.L.Peiris is reported to have drafted these 'concrete
proposals' but one of the issues would be whether written proposals
should be sent to the LTTE or whether the LTTE should be first asked
to return to the negotiating table to discuss the proposals.
The LTTE has
been repeatedly demanding that it wanted 'concrete proposals' regarding
the interim administration to return to the negotiating table. The
letter regarding the proposals is due to be sent to Anton Balasingham
whose role as LTTE's cheif negotiator is reportedly in jeopardy.
LTTE's political
wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan will not travel to London, despite
speculation that he was due to meet Mr Balasingham soon after the
proposal on the interim administration is received.
One of the
main obstacles faced for such a visit would be obtaining a visa
as the LTTE continues to remain a banned organisation in Britain.
British High Commission spokesperson Margret Tounge said as long
as the LTTE was a proscribed organisation in Britain, its members
would not be able to obtain visas to visit Britain. Mr. Balasingham
holds British citizenship. |
