SLMM
to double check on disputed camp
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission is to make a further effort tomorrow
to resolve the crisis over the LTTE's refusal to pull a military
camp out of what is widely seen as a government-controlled area.
SLMM Deputy
Chief Hagrup Hauckland said the monitors were standing by their
ruling that the camp was in government-controlled territory in Kinniya
and should be pulled out but it would send officers for a further
survey in view of the LTTE's insistence that the camp was in its
territory.
"We will
send our officers to carry out a fresh survey. We are convinced
that the camp is in a government-controlled area but the LTTE claims
otherwise. The LTTE continues to ignore our ruling but we hope to
sort out the matter. Work is expected to begin tomorrow," Mr.
Hauckland said.
Meanwhile,
Monitoring Mission chief Tryggve Telefsen is to meet LTTE political
leader S. P. Thamilselvan tomorrow to discuss various issues, including
the controversy over the camp. |
