Kandy 37
Police 13
Kandy SC kicked off the second round of the Caltex "A"
Division cup in style when they out classed the cops by 37 (2 Goals,
4 Tries, 1 Penalty) to 13 (1 Goal, 2 Penalties) yesterday at Police
Park. At lemons the score was 13 points each.
Police SC showed
excellent form as they took a clear lead in the first 20 minutes
of the game. The side from Kandy were unsettled with some threatening
moves. But in the second half the fitness of Kandy SC was superior
as they ran down four tries of which Dhanushka Pushpakumara scored
three. The game got off to a hectic pace in the first half, where
two of the Police players and one player from the Kandy SC were
sent to sin bin.
Police SC opened
scoring in the 10th minute of the game when Dhanushka intercepted
a long pass by Kandy SC ran almost 80 meters to score under the
post which was converted by Dissanayake. With police playing attacking
rugby they stormed into Kandy territory and were awarded with a
penalty, which was converted by Dissanayake to give Police SC, a
shocking 10 - 0 lead.
Kandy SC came
back as Pushpakumara and Hettiarachchi touched down in quick time
but the conversions were missed by Amjad Bucks with five minutes
in to lemons. Hettiarachchi kicked a 30 meter penalty to level the
scores. In the second half Kandy SC, playing attacking open rugby,
crossed the Police line no less than four times with Pushpakumara
scoring three of them and lightning pace of Indrajith Bandaranayake
paving the way for a solitary try. Nalaka Weerakody who played only
in the second half along with Indrajith Bandaranayake converted
two of the tries. Both of them who have been playing for Kandy SC
from 1990 were in cracking form..
