Talking, talking but no dismantling
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission has warned the LTTE of serious repercussions from its refusal to dismantle the training camp at Manirasakulam in the Trincomalee district.

SLMM deputy chief Hagrup Hauckland said that if the camp was not dismantled, then it might lead to the setting up of other illegal camps elsewhere. Despite three days of discussions between the SLMM and the LTTE on the controversial camp, the Tigers continue to ignore the SLMM ruling. Last week, the SLMM on completion of surveying the site gave its second ruling that the LTTE camp was constructed in a Government-controlled- area.

At last week's meeting, the LTTE put forward yet another demand by informing the SLMM Chief that it would send a team to inspect the site and then take a decision on whether to remove it or not. The SLMM is awaiting a response from the LTTE's political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan by tomorrow to make its next move.

Mr. Hauckland said the dispute needed to be resolved fast before it caused bigger problems.
