Kandambi smashes century as Bloomfield take control

A smashing century from Thilina Kandambi helped Bloomfield to 272 all out against Negombo CC in Cricket Board Under 23 game played at Reid Avenue yesterday.
Kandambi the former Anandian who has great promise but has played below his potential was in full cry yesterday as he cracked half a dozen sixes and nine boundaries in a 123 ball knock. Supported by a useful 40 from T. N. Sampath (brother of Tilakaratne Dilshan) Bloomfield finished on an imposing 272.

In reply Negombo CC were 67 for the loss of 3 wickets with skipper Kaushal Lokuarachchi picking up two wickets for Bloomfield.

Colts batsmen on the rampage
Colts batsmen went on the rampage as they hit up 303 for 8 against Nugegoda SC in their Under 23 game played at Havelock Park yesterday.

Two useful knocks from D. Premadasa (77) and N Wickremaratne (78) helped the hosts to reach a formidable 303 for 8 wickets by the close.

Panadura in command
Panadura SC were in a commanding position against Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club at the end of the first day's play in their Under 23 game at Panadura yesterday.
After bowling out the visitors for 170 runs Panadura finished the day on 123 for 2 wickets with D. Perera leading the way with a polished 63

Lankan CC 205
A half century from S. Peiris helped Lankan CC to 205 all out against Petersons SC in a Cricket Board Under 23 game at Kotte yesterday.

Batting first Lankan CC hit up 205 with Peiris top scoring with a fine 56. A Godapitiya was the the pick of the bowlers claiming 6 for 46. In reply Petersons were in a bad way at 90 for 6 wickets by the close.

Chilaw Marians in strong position
Chilaw Marians helped by two half centuries from Malintha Gajanayake (57 n.o.) and Praneeth Jayasundara (51 n.o.) were 186 for 4 in reply to Saracens SC score of 100 on the first day's play in the Premier Division Under 23 being played at the FTZ grounds in Katunayake. Pacie Manoj Chanaka was the wrecker with figures of 6 for 32 for the Marians.

Lahiru, Umhar and Sherwin prop St.Peter’s
Right arm pace Umhar Samsudeen and left arm spinner Sherwin Lindsay sharing six wickets between them combined together to give the Peterites a thrilling ten-run win over the Anandians in a Under 16 inter-school quarter final cricket match played at De Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa. The Anandians who were well on the way for a win saw their dreams shattered with some hostile bowling by Umhar who was supported by Sherwin.

DSS win
D.S.Senanayake College overcame Kalutara MV on bonus points in another quarter final game of the Under 16 Division One cricket tournament played at Bambalapitiya. Kalutara MV taking first lease of the wicket made 151 and DSS in reply were 117 for 3 when stumps were drawn.

Indoor cricket, netball tournament

Encouraged by the success of the Indoor Cricket Tournament held in year 2001, Intissel Lanka Private Limited will organize a similar tournament in August 2003.
Once again, this will be exclusively for the garment manufacturers and the buying houses within Sri Lanka. Around 80 teams are expected to participate in this year's tournament selected on a first-come first-served basis due to the tremendous enthusiasm shown for this gala event.

A press conference will be held at the Austasia Sports Complex in Thalawatugoda on July 25. All selected team captains will be present to participate in the draw for the preliminary rounds to be worked off from the August 7 to 15. The final rounds will be played on the August 16. All games will be played at the Austasia Complex and conducted under their approved rules and regulations.

A netball tournament will also be held on the same day to keep the ladies in the garment industry on their toes while giving the gents an opportunity to cheer their female counterparts.

A turnout of over 500 is expected on August 16. Intissel Lanka will provide food and drink for all participants and invitees on this day in addition to musical groups and other forms of entertainment.

All aspects of the event will be covered by the Print and Electronic media and will have some of Sri Lanka's big names in cricket present to grace the occasion.
The organizers expect to conduct this event at least once every two years due to the popularity and enthusiasm generated within the garment industry who are our respected customers.
