Big
boost for Antonian rugby
Old Katugastota Antonian rugby and cricket promoter Roshan Yaseen,
Director Readywear Garments has donated rugby gear (including 25
Gilbert balls and warm-up clothes and jogging shoes) to his old
school to prop their rugby promotion campaign.
He supports
Kandy SC rugby, too. He says rugby is his first love. Besides helping
the oval ball sport, Roshan is assisting cricketers of Bloomfield,
too, who deserves encouragement with men and material.-BW

face tough task against Cops
The Ceylon Rugby Football Club who are placed fifth in the Caltex
"A" Division Cup competition will be locking horns with
the high riding Cops today at Police Park will kick off at 5.00
p.m. The Red Shirts who lost to the star-studded Kandy SC last weekend
in a nail bitter by 20-24 will face the real acid test today. In
the opening game they lost to the CH&FC by 20-27 after leading
in the initial half.
The Red Shirts
gave an excellent account of themselves led by hardy Shamly Nawas
who led from the front by example who had an excellent game against
the Kandy SC. Cops playing minus their skipper Sampath Galewela
who is out with an injury played superb rugby in the first half
but their fitness in the second half was very ordinary in both second
round games.
They went down
to the Kandy SC by 13-37 after holding them to 13-13 at lemons.
In the second game last weekend they went down to the Soldiers by
20-30 after leading in the first half. Considering the form of both
sides in the second round the Red Shirts holds a slight edge over

Navy
should pull it off against Kurunegala RFC
The Navy SC will be all out to register yet another win when they
lock horns with the lads from Kurunegala today at Welisara. Sailors
who are favoured to win the Plate Championship for yet another year
have shown good form in the second round by beating the youth side
from Kandy by 44-21 and in the second game they outclassed the Old
Zahira Sports Club by 41-15.
They have some
quality players in their ranks with Ravi Jayasuriya, Noordeen and
Ranatunga all out to give their best. Meanwhile the lads from Kurunegala
lost to the Airmen by 8-39 in the only game which they have played
so far in the second round are playing minus any foreigners Their
main setbacks this season were quality players and the required
sponsorship, which they did not receive.
According to
the form in the second round games the Sailors should pull it off

Kingswood
'B' Division Champs
Kingswood College Kandy who was the first school to introduce Rugby
Football in Sri Lanka regained some of the lost pride when they
remained unbeaten in the current inter school season in the "B"
division. They won all eight matches and undoubtly their best victory
was over the strong Ananda side, which they won by 32-8. Kingswood
started Rugby way back in 1893 played their first inter school match
against Trinity College Kandy.
The team is
led by Centre Dinesh Siriwardena who is a third year coloursman
who turned out be a outstanding leader. They opened the season in
grand style by beating Wesley 17-5 at their new Rugby ground at
Randles Hill for the L E Blazer Shield. They continued their good
form by beating St. Sylvester’s 17-10, Zahira 65-3, Thurstan
15-13, Vidyartha 42-6, Dharmaraja 14-3 and the strong Josephians
by 29-7. Their victories over Dharmaraja and Wesley are very significant
because both these sides are in the "A" division . The
