LTTE asks Govt.
servants to toe its line
Government
Agent Batticoloa, Additional GA Trincomalee and 350 public servants
have received instructions from LTTE Political Wing leader S. P.
Thamilselvan to be prepared to implement LTTE's development plans
for the East shortly.
At two separate
meetings in Batticoloa and Trincomalee -- both presided over by
the LTTE leader, not by the GAs -- they were also told to be in
readiness to activate the LTTE's rehabilitation projects.
The GAs and
more than 350 government servants from Trincomalee and Batticoloa
districts were summoned to Tamil guerrilla-controlled areas in Sampur
in Trincomalee and Kokkadicholai in Batticaloa.
In Batticaloa,
the District Secretary R. Monagurusamy himself led the government
servants for the meeting while in Trincomalee Additional District
Secretary K. Singarayar and Provincial Council Secretary S. Rangaraja
were among the senior government officers present for the meeting.
Mr. Thamilselvan
wanted the government servants to expedite development activities
in the Eastern Province in consultation with the pro-LTTE 'development
committees' which have already been set up.
The LTTE called
the government servants to act in a similar manner as the Kilinochchi
government servants who were working in close co-operation with
the LTTE.
The government
servants had complained to the LTTE that they were understaffed,
lacked funds and other facilities to carry out development work
or rehabilitation work in the two districts.
The LTTE had
pointed out that the process to establish an interim administration
was under way and that funds would be available for development
activities while the LTTE had its own proposals which need to be
implemented.
In Jaffna,
the LTTE conducts similar meetings for government servants on a
regular basis and has given detailed instructions to education officials
and other administrative service officers, including grama seveka
niladharis.
