LTTE
frontliner seeks Oslo Municipal seat
A front-line activist of the LTTE's international organisation -
Raja Balasingham alias Baskaran is to participate in Norwegian Municipal
elections next month, a stepping-stone to the national politics
of that country.
Baskaran, one
of the key figures in the LTTE is contesting from the opposition
Norwegian Labour Party, the original architects of the country's
intervention in the Sri Lankan insurgency as facilitators in 2001.
A naturalised
citizen of Norway, Baskaran is contesting for a seat in the Municipal
Council of Oslo, Norway's capital and the acceptance of his candidature
by a mainstream Norwegian political party is seen as an indicator
of the voter-base and the influence of the Tamil diaspora in Norwegian
politics. Baskaran has been a frequent visitor to the Wanni in recent
months to be in direct contact with the LTTE leadership |
