Negombo, situated
north of Colombo was once famous for its Cinnamon and Coconut, not
too long ago. However, today you'd see the fishermen at their craft,
bronzed figures bent over their nets or setting out their canoes,
as Negombo is now famous for fish and crustaceans. Along with tradition
there is also a buzzing nightlife here as the beaches are dotted
with many nightspots to visit.
With the commencement
of the International Airport many hotels sprang up in Negombo, being
a just a stone's throw away from the airport thus making this the
perfect place for travellers. The whole impression of the town is
cheerful and prosperous with its white bungalows set among palm
trees.
Just one hour's
drive from Colombo you could experience and witness yourself the
best beaches in Sri Lanka, which will entice you and which will
also take your breath away. In this place of serenity, Jetwing boasts
of five hotels in this wonderful place.
Three decades
ago investment of Blue Oceanic Beach Hotel took place with all 110
rooms being air-conditioned. The increasing demand for the hotel
promoted the Management to set up Royal Oceanic Hotel, which consists
of 91 a/c rooms and all rooms with T.V., which gives the customer
a choice of swimming pool and other facilities. After which Seashells
Hotel came under the Jetwing umbrella and last year in November
2002 Ayurveda Pavilions, the first purpose-built Ayurveda Hotel.
Ayurveda Pavilions was erected in the west coast last year, which
now has the distinction of being a member of the Great Spa Hotels
of the World.
Thus, the saying
goes "Come to Negombo" as it makes you linger on.
