‘Greatest
Hits of All Times’
Popular pianist Srini Fonseka released her first ever music CD titled
“Greatest Hits of All Times” last week..
This CD contains
several perennial hits such as “Autumn Leaves’, ‘’My
Way’’, “Let It Be Me”, etc and features
Kumar Molligoda accompanying her on sax.
An old girl
of Visakha Vidyalaya, Srini has the distinction of being the leader/pianist
of the first ever all-woman band in Sri Lanka, called “Vibrator”
in the sixties.
She has performed
as solo pianist at the lobbies of several five star hotels in Colombo
such as the (former) Lanka Oberoi, Hilton, Trans Asia, Galadari
in addition to playing at Tangerine Hotels out of Colombo.
Srini had her
first lessons in music with Chitrani Balasooriya and subsequently
joined the Pestonjee School of Music where she went up to the Licentiate
Diploma of the Trinity College of Music London.

Loose at The Hut’

Popular night club ‘The Hut’ at the Mount Lavinia Hotel
is the centre of attraction this week too with the competition “Foot
Loose at The Hut” organised by the TV Times and Mount Lavinia
Hotel .

Any one can
send any amount of entries but it must be the original coupons from
the TV Times and no photo copies or faxes will be entertained. All
the coupons must be pasted on posted cards and posted to the above
address on or before September 9, the latest.
The all correct
entries will be drawn by a panel of judges and the decision of the
judges on all matters pertaining to this contest will be final.
‘Hut’
is the most popular nightout venue at the moment. The former Little
Hut, which began life as Colombo’s first night club on July
20, in 1957, the famous meeting place of yore, for lovers and friends
in the 60’s and 70’s is back again with a vengeance.
The Hut is gone back to its original venue at the former Governor’s
residence, the good old Mount Lavinia Hotel.
‘The
Hut’ will be open Wednesday to Sunday. On Wednesday, Thursday
and Sunday the hours of operation will be 9.00 p.m. to 2.00 a.m.
On Fridays and Saturdays the Hut will be open from 9.00 p.m. to
4.00a.m.
Music of 70’s,
80’s and 90’s will be the new order. Tickets are priced
at Rs. 500/- per gent with free entrance for ladies. This time round,
the Hut will have a strict ‘couples and members only’
policy. |
